In the past I've been a bit cynical in regard to some forms of web promotion like blogs. Even with a blog that actually had a point and was informative, I wondered how it could expect to get noticed in the glut of (often unreliable) info coming at us all the time.
I now realize blogs along with other devices like podcasting etc are elements which go to make up an overall web marketing schematic, and are not as I previously thought, people sitting around with too much time on their hands. If you have any kind of product to sell, you can spread the word fast like this. And in the case of someone like me it just makes sense to avoid more opportunity for music to sit around gathering cobwebs on Itunes or Amazon.
I've been posting to my mailing list about three times a year which is pretty poor really, my excuse being I only wanted to give quality not quantity. That is still the case, but if I don't stay in touch, I'm left behind, it's as simple as that. The way internet syndication works, it's not a conflict of interests to be out there talking about other people's music as opposed to just mine as that alone could surely become boring. Content is the thing.
